Pillowcase Dress

My first piece of clothing made for Cora! And it will last pretty much forever! A pillowcase dress has a ribbon strung through as the straps, and it is long enough to adjust as they grow. I made her dress long so that as she grows it'll just get shorter but still fit due to the adjustable straps! Pretty sweet huh?! It can be worn as a dress and then years down the road as a tunic!
I used a a tutorial found here even though this method is supposedly a choking hazard, they also have tutorials that use elastic in the front and back.. but I wanted the traditional version, and seeing as she's never unsupervised she should be okay, that and unless she is really talented and can get out my double knotted bow!
The contrast bottom edge is actually a fabric that matches one of the birds! I may change the color of the ribbon.. now that I see it in photographs I can see it's not exactly a match!
I am also very proud of myself because I used french seams for the first time.. actually french seams that were then sewed down, which is called a flat felled seam. So fun! and such a nice finished look with no strings flying around everywhere!
She was a bit hard to photograph, now that she is walking she is in constant motion!

Too cute, and funny, because I just ordered two vintage pillowcases from Etsy so I could make Olivia a dress. Great minds think alike, I guess :)

So adorable...I was poking around a couple weeks ago for new patterns and saw this style. I love it! Almost makes me wish we had a girl so I could make one! Well, I guess there are always gifts!

Amanda.. Definitely post pics of them when you make them! I took the easy way out and used regular fabric instead of a pillowcase, but now that I've made one I'll be on the search of cool pillowcases! I think ones with pretty lacy/detailed ends would look real cool!
